A Response To Bill McClellan

My friend Bill McClellan, with whom I may not always agree but always enjoy reading, penned a column recently with which I most certainly do not agree:

Bear in mind that most veterans did nothing heroic. They served, and that’s laudable, but it hardly seems necessary to provide them all with military honors after they have died.

In fact, it seems generous enough to provide veterans and their spouses with free space and headstones at a national cemetery.

McClellan answers his own query in his piece by noting that the budget has already been reduced so as to replace the bugler with a recording. States like Oklahoma have also seen budget cuts.

The National Defense Authorization Act outlines that military honors are a function of government.

I agree with McClellan: we have government waste, and most of it appears in the form of congressional proposals. We spend money on everything from duck dongs to robosquirrels, welfare fraud and free Obama phones.

Let’s cut that waste, see what’s left over, and then talk about military funerals. I think our men and women in uniform sacrifice enough already. They deserve the honor.
